Newsletter – April 2019

President’s Message

Hi everybody, we are fast coming to the end of the Winter Season and some of you will be off to your Outdoor Clubs, I wish you well.

The flat has almost been refurbished and ready for rental in the very near future. The flat consists of 2 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, bathroom and a room with window which could be used for an office, storage or whatever. The flat is carpeted throughout with white goods already in place. It has it’s own entrance and staircase to the flat door and a car parking space for 1 car. The rental will be £1500.00 per calendar month which includes Gas, Electric, Water and Council Tax. If a member is interested in renting the flat please contact either myself or Tony Bourne to arrange a viewing.

Our thanks must go to Barry Atkinson for the stern work he has put in over the past 3 weeks on the redecoration of the flat, he has worked like a Trojan, a truly valuable volunteer. Also to Tony and his crew, thanks.

OCTOGENARIANS – have you put your names on the Match Form stationed on the Mixed Match Board. It is clearly marked. Your meal will be Homemade Soup, Turkey, trimmings and vegetables, with Lemon Roulade for dessert. Any problems please contact me. I look forward to seeing you all.

Our thanks are extended to Sam Gingell for her work producing the Newsletter over the past 3 years and welcome Alan Hart and Yvonne Russell who have taken on this role. We are delighted, thank you very much. We wish you every success.

I think you will all agree the Indoor Green is really looking spruce with all the new advertisements accumulated by Alan Hart ably assisted by Yvonne Russell over the past months, helping our income considerably and to be more we hear. Many thanks to you both.

Lastly, I would like to give a big THANKYOU to all Committee Members who give up their free time to keep the wheels turning, keeping Croydon Club running smoothly, we are lucky to have you and it is really appreciated.

Daphne

Social Section

This year seems to be flying past it’s already April, almost back for the outdoor season.

Forthcoming events:-

We are holding our annual “black tie event” on April 12th. Tickets are going like hot cakes – just a few left. If you have not already returned your menus, please do so as soon as possible, please indicate anyone you would like to be sitting with.

We are going to be holding another Bingo evening, on the 26th April. The last one was good fun so please come along and support this event. If you want to book food for the evening please see Richard, but the restaurant will be open on the night for teas and coffees etc.

We have had a lot of interest in the Summertime Special to Westcliffe on Sea on 26th July, and all of those members who have indicated an interest will be contacted in the next two weeks with offers of tickets. We already almost have one coach full. More detail on the event will be in next months’ newsletter and on the notice boards.

Three more companies are just about to have boards put up in the indoor hall, Kia Motors, Owen Hearing and Heather Bailey Optometrist. Thanks go to Dave Barkway for securing these companies. We also have Brittania who are going to take the space of the Renault advert in the middle of the green and Dave is now also looking for other sponsors for the outdoor greens.

Please support all of these advertisers as they provide very good revenue for the club. 12 club members attended a very good open day at Carriages new development in Purley and, and I think all were impressed. Carriages are also sponsoring the ticket sales for the black tie event.

BOOK ENDS

Read any good books lately? You could find just what you are looking for in our book cases that are located in the indoor bowling arena. Many of the books by some of the world’s best known authors are available for as little as 25p. Just think that’s cheaper than a cup of tea. So for as little as a £1 you can have all the books you need to take on that get away from it all holiday! New books are introduced almost every week so if you don’t see what you want straight away keep on looking. With the average new paper back now £7.99 that has got to be a bargain. Happy reading.

Calling all gardeners

As you will all know, Greer has been the mainstay of the gardening group. She has now left the club and I am looking to put together a group to carry on the good work Greer has been doing. If you have a few hours that you cannot fill and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, please get in touch with me and I will organise a get together to discuss the best way of utilising any time you can spare. It will then be up to us to keep the outside gardens up to scratch and looking good for the benefit of all our members and visitors.

Call me on 07742633718 so that we can move forward and arrange a get together before the weeds get to high.
