We have lift off – the board is now working, thanks to the skill and dexterity of our whizz kids……..Thanks a million.
HAVE WE GOT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS ?
If you have picked this copy of the newsletter up from the Club and are not receiving it in your inbox – we do not have your email address……you may be missing out
Please give us your email – pop it in our mailing box in the Club or email us! – Yvonne or Alan email@example.com
You may not be saving the planet by using less paper – but it will save me some work!!!!!
If you have any items of interest or comments for the Newsletter please pass to Alan/Yvonne by 25th of each month.
Tel 0777 2022 156 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Don’t forget to look at our website – now being updated regularly.
Please note the Restaurant and Bar will be closed from pm 23rd December until 2nd January
The Club will also be closed on New Year’s Day
The new boiler has been installed and at the moment settings are being looked at to keep the temperature at an even warmth. Bear with us we will have it sorted in a day or two. Thank you for your patience.
We have a Finance Committee in situ but not a Treasurer to sit on the Board. Any member interested please contact me. We are also in need of a Bowls Director, although we are receiving Minutes keeping us up to date with matters going on we have nobody on the Board to take back our thoughts or comments, other than seeing a Committee Member we are able to speak to. Surely there is someone on the Committee with a little time to spare.
Christmas Cards. – the exchange of these has soared and soared over the years and a suggestion has been put forward that a tree be put up with a tag for members to write their Xmas wishes on one tag to ALL MEMBERS instead of individual cards. Needless to say there are members who do not wish to be part of this and I agree it is a personal choice. The tree will be in the bar and a box for donations to charity. Charities suggested are St. Christophers and St Raphael. This does not mean individual cards cannot be given, it is just an alternative, and it is up to you ladies and gents.
No.2 flat is now completed and the tenants have taken residence.
The Club will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, also New Year’s Day. All rinks are available for roll ups except for closure dates.
I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a Very Happy Xmas and Health and Happiness for the New Year as this will be the last Newsletter in time to wish you these good tidings.
Finally I would like to thank you all for the support you have given to the Club, it is much appreciated by us all and look forward to 2020 being ever successful.
I will be going to Pershore to have some bowls re-stamped. Anyone with bowls stamped 2019 will see that after the end of December this year, their bowls will no longer be acceptable in any games in National or County games and any competitions once a certain level us reached.
I will be happy to take sets of Bowls with me so as to save on postage. At the moment it costs £29 to have them re-stamped plus £15 postage each way. A total of £59.
I hope to be able to reduce this total cost to £40, if I have enough takers.
It can be done in two days so you will not be without your bowls for too long.
I will put up a notice in the club for you to put your names on if you are interested. Please contact me if you need more information.
I will let you know the date when I have some response.
“Helping you read and build a head”.
3rd December at 10 am.
County Coach Denise will be giving a presentation at the Club
All are welcome!
Rob Whittlesey has been working hard to get the Club’s profile out into the world of the land of Google. Have a look – the new website is easier to navigate and we hope that many more people will see us now it has been upgraded….hopefully more members and more enquiries for the Club. Thanks Rob!
Ladies Indoor Competitions
All the draws have now been made and the competitions are off and running. Many thanks to Marion Branch for assisting and verifying the draws.
The competition lists are situated in 3 areas: – the ladies locker room, on the Competitions Board by the Indoor Office and also on the web site.
Please remember that this year we have included a ‘Challenge By’ date as well as a ‘Play By’ date.
Results should be put in the Competitions box by the Indoor Office, and I will regularly update the draw sheets.
Good Luck Ladies.

Men's Indoor - Wins All Round!!!!!!
Since the last newsletter we have progressed to the last 32 in the Denny Plate after a convincing win against Donyngs and now play Oyster Whitstable, Kent on 7th December.
We have also made through to the next round of the L&SC Shield, again beating Donyngs and now play White Oak on 14th December.
Our ‘A’ team also won their ‘over 60s’ double rink against Camberley winning on the extra end, well done everyone.
We won our latest league against Camberley at home we also beat the Met Police and Worthing IBC both at home and I am advised that we have also been successful in our mixed matches.
We have a number of matches between now and Christmas starting with a league against Sutton on Saturday 23rd November, a friendly against the Banks BA on Wednesday 22nd November and on 1st December we have another league at home against Donyngs. We then play Victory at home on 11th December and our last game before Christmas is away to Worthing on 14th December – which clashes with our Shield game – so I hope those of you not playing in the shield will support this match….. We have a coach so no driving.
In the event that we do not have another newsletter before the end of December, I would take this opportunity of wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful, happy and healthy 2020.
Men’s Indoor Captain
Club Men's Indoor Competitions 2019/2020
Men’s Indoor Competitions draw for 2019/2020 has been made and is up and running on the clubs website with draw sheets on the hallway notice boards. The website will be updated regularly so try and get into the habit of looking at this site not only for competition news but all things social as well.
Look at the play by dates and adhere to them. Please remember to talk and challenge one another asap, get your names down in the book and get these games played.
Remember it is up to you guys to talk to one another and get your dates sorted out.
If you go over these dates you may well be struck out without discussion especially you usual offenders and you know who you are.
Would all winning competitors please write your names clearly in the spaces provided on the draw sheets as soon as you can after the games have ended. If you do have any problems in doing this please ask another club mate to help you or speak with me Allen Banks or leave it blank and I shall fill it in when at the club.
Please place your score cards when complete and signed in the competition box in the bowls hall. This competition box is the big white one which has ‘competitions’ clearly written on it and has been there since time began or even before that.
Remember all this administrative work takes time and commitment from me your Men’s Indoor Competition Secretary; this is my 5th year of holding the position and like many jobs at the club very necessary if we are to remain a competitive bowls club. All I ask of you competitors is play your games by the dates shown on the competition sheets. Do not wait for opponent to make contact it may never happen, if you do not hear from your opponent make contact yourself and get some dates in the book.
This year I will strike names from the sheet if you do not make contact or play by the dates stated unless I have given an extension which will only be given in extenuating circumstances.
EIBA Summer Indoor National Competitions
If interested in indoor bowling only this coming 2020 Summer and want a bit of a challenge you can find all the information that you need for the Summer National Indoor Competitions on the EIBA website. There are also Posters displayed with all relevant details on the clubs notice boards or ask me Allen Banks and I shall take great delight in taking you in the right direction and to the correct website.
These Competitions have to be entered by 31st January 2020 so there is plenty of time to sort out like minded team-mates who want some summer competition.

Evening Mixed Triples League 2019-20
An erratic start with enough players for 5 teams until a few re-thinks found people with too much on their plates and they withdrew. So we dropped to just 4 sides involving 3 of last year’s Men’s Evening Leagues (Aces, Kenley and Trojans) and a completely new team under the auspices of Alan Hart (Hearts).
It has been a delight to include Ladies within the teams – the fact that a team of 3 Ladies beat a team of 3 Gentlemen is entirely irrelevant!!
If we start on time at 6.15 p.m. we finish at very close to 8.30, as originally envisaged, with 14 ends or 2 hours, but we can be a little late starting and we do socialise rather well. “Oh – is that what it’s all about, then?”
Murmurings are that playing triples rather than rinks is appreciated – so many of the “lower-level” players prefer having the extra wood once our original two have found ditches or other foreign destinations.
Hopefully, we will go on to greater things (like another team or two) but the spirit is in the fun and the taking part – that’s our Olympic philosophy coming through.
There are some vacancies for Bembridge 2020
You can join us as a bowler or non-bowler

Social AGM - 8th November
Thank you to all who turned up to support this year’s AGM, I am told it’s the best attendance for a while!
A full report on all of the events covered this year were reported on, and we have also almost completed the 2020 events Diary.
I, as Chairman jointly with Yvonne and Jane Williams as treasurer, gave full reports on the year. We are pleased to announce that over the course of the year the social section were able to pass £10,114.05 over to the club, £4,010 from the development side and £3,000 from the 200 club ably run by Tina Welsh.
Please support our events for 2020.We try to make them as diverse and inclusive as possible! Your continued support will be particularly important in the coming year.
Full notes of the meeting will be published on the notice board.
The Old Tyme Music Hall held at the beginning of November was a roaring success. The West Wickham Operatic Society led us in old time songs and it was surprising how many of us knew all the words.
Some of us were quite shocked by the escapologist and a few of the jokes were cringe-worthy. (Worse than Tony’s!) Everyone had a good time, enjoyed a tasty buffet and went home with songs in their hearts. A very social event.
Bingo – once again John (even with a sore throat) hosted a very successful Bingo night – look out for the next one.
Bazaar – 23rd November
And again, Marion’s Marvellous Christmas Market was a stonking success. Father Christmas arrived with a sack full of sweeties and stayed for the entire market!!!! Thanks Santa.
All the volunteers went home exhausted – but it was well worth it as they raised over £1,280.00
for your Club.
Thanks to everyone who helped, especially Marion and her organisers. (She is already planning for next year’s event!!!). Members owe a lot to these people who give their time and energy to help the Club.
If you couldn’t make it – don’t forget there are still opportunities to buy Christmas raffle tickets from any Committee member and to see Santa at our breakfast on 23rd December.
Everything raised at these events goes directly to the Club!!!

A Re-Union Buffet Lunch
took place at the Masonic Halls on October 11th which was attended by 101 Lady Bowlers from Croydon Clubs which was amazing and so nice to meet up with friends from other clubs.
It was agreed that we should have another one next year so the provisional date is Friday 9th October 2020 and will be a sit down 2 course meal.
Thank you to everyone who has come along to the 2 Drive/Brunches that we have had. Everyone has enjoyed the bowling followed by Bacon and Eggs etc.
